Nel 2021 Yardman, musicista gambiano, pubblica la canzone Forza Napoli e oggi, 4 giugno 2023, insieme alla Cabeng Band presenta il videoclip per festeggiare insieme…
nome d’arte di Mohamed Karomah, nel 2014 dal Gambia si trasferisce a Napoli, dove prosegue il percorso formativo musicale.
Canta principalmente in inglese e wolof, con ritmi d’ispirazione reggae.
Partecipa all’album Ocean di Nafrythm e nel 2021 pubblica Sooner or Later, una raccolta di sette brani inediti. Nel 2022 la formazione si consolida e nasce la Cabeng Band.
pubblicato il 30 ottobre 2021 è disponibile in streaming sulle principali piattaforme musicali, come Spotify e Bandcamp.
I brani sono stati registrati negli studi del Centro Musica Yellow Submarine di Napoli in un percorso di lavoro durato diversi anni.
Prodotto insieme a Vittorio Nicoletti Altimari, suo precettore di musica e amico, con il quale ha organizzato le formazioni musicali e suonato in molti dei pezzi dell’album.
Da Napoli al globo! La voce di Yardman ritorna dai suoi fratelli in Gambia, dai suoi cugini in America e dai suoi amici dell’anima sparsi per il mondo! Le sue canzoni parlano di amicizia, di cooperazione e di unità .
Ispirato dalla musica reggae per il ritmo festivo ed i messaggi di pace universale che questa porta con sé, i testi ricordano il valore degli uomini che difendono la libertà , come quello di Kunta Kinte, ragazzo africano rapito e venduto come schiavo in America nel 1767.
Duecento anni dopo, ad un suo concittadino è toccato un destino migliore. Viene adottato da mamma Napoli che continua a nutrirlo musicalmente.

Nato nel 2016, anno dopo anno si arricchisce di contenuti e di partecipazioni.
Nafrithm, Sooner or Later e Cabeng Band rappresentano i lavori finora realizzati.
Oggi la Cabeng ha una formazione stabile ed un gruppo di altri artisti che a vari livelli partecipano alla realizzazione dei pezzi musicali.
I lavori sono totalmente indipendenti ed autofinanziati.
Uno dei brani dell’album s’intitola Slave Trade ed è un pezzo ballabile e suadente ricco di caldi cori afro che sembrano commemorare con straordinaria serenità le anime dei martiri del razzismo.
Il testo, scritto in parte in wolof ed in parte in inglese, cita i nomi di Stephen Bantu Biko attivista anti-apartheid morto dopo dolorose ed umilianti torture subite in carcere; Malcom X assassinato per le sue azioni antirazziste e lo stesso Kunta Kinte.
Triste ma vero, questa canzone è stata registrata con la partecipazione di Mohamed Benali, cantante senegalese arso vivo in una capanna in Puglia nel 2020, ennesima vittima del caporalato.
Il Griot ha il potere della parola e in Africa la parola è sacra: forza vitale creatrice che attiva e ordina l’universo, gli uomini e le cose. Veicolo vivente della tradizione.
Un giorno tornerà a noi, arricchita di nuovi dettagli e con una voce nuova. Il cantastorie ashanti conclude la sua narrazione dicendo: “quella che ho raccontato è la mia storia, dolce o amara che vi sia sembrata, qualcosa portatela con voi e qualcosa lasciate che torni a me”.

Vive a Napoli, giramondo dallo spirito libero. I suoi testi contengono messaggi di libertà , rispetto e spunti di riflessione su di sé e sulla vita. Fin da giovanissimo si avvicina al mondo della musica. La passione per la musica Reggae diventa per lui uno stile di vita.
La musica per condividere, raccontare ciò che si vive, quello che si vede, denunciare. Frequenta ambienti musicali con gli amici traendo linfa per il proprio stile. Yardman, suo nome d’arte, deriva dal soprannome datogli dagli amici musicisti, per la sua inclinazione di intrattenersi con amici e musicisti in raduni, incontri condividendo esperienze di vita e di musica.
Nel 2007 proprio durante uno di questi incontri si fa strada l’idea di formare una band, e di intraprendere lo studio della tastiera elettronica. Nasce la formazione Bright Star Band, composta da 7 musicisti che li porta a suonare nelle migliori location del Gambia.
Durante i concerti, Yardman mostra la sua spiccata carica live, energica. Ed una voce calda e roca che coinvolge. Nel 2014 emigra in Italia. Si stabilisce a Napoli, cittĂ che ama e a cui dedica uno dei suoi lavori. Si immerge nel mondo della musica, a Napoli matura il desiderio di produrre un disco tutto suo… ed alla fine ci riesce.

Yardman ha fatto il suo ingresso nel circuito dei musicisti a Napoli iscrivendosi al Laboratorio Talenti Migranti, tenuto dalla Associazione Culturale Rete Co’Mar grazie al sostegno del Comune di Napoli e dell’Impresa Sociale Less Onlus (programma SPRAR, IARA) nei locali del Centro Musica Yellow Submarine.
Dai numerosi incontri, jam session e registrazioni è nato il progetto Nafrythm (Napoli, Africa, ritmo). La band di cui Yardman fa parte, ha unito musicisti provenienti da diversi paesi (Italia, Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Mozambico). Oltre a tanti concerti in Italia, Germania e Nigeria, viene pubblicato l’album Ocean (link a band camp).
Cabeng band è l’evoluzione naturale del progetto Nafrythm (Napoli Africa e Ritmo) e si propone di portare dal vivo le sonorità di questo incontro artistico che celebra l’umanità e la ricchezza delle differenze.
In apertura la band funk rock Quartaparete. A seguire, il ritmo afro-reggae di “Sooner or Later Seven Songs” con i maestri Vittorio Nicoletti Altimari (basso), Marco Gesualdi (chitarra elettrica) e Antonello Petrella (sax).
